Ok, HR has not got back with me on how this info about my surgery reached that "blabber-mouth" but I've done some of
my own research and found out that she found out from a supervisor in Madison that said she needed to be trained on my duties cuz I'm going to be on leave for surgery. This person that is being trained asked me straight out what kind of surgery, I told her straight out that it is illegal for management to ask that question and I'm not saying. She said "ok" but she is asking other staff now...No one else knows,  but I'm going to put an end to this when I see her on Tuesday. Since she is technically
management, I'm going to reiterate that she needs to stop asking. Right now she has to watch herself cuz I'm training her and I will not sign her off as ready till I'm sure she is so I do have some pull. I know down the line in several months staff will figure it out what the surgery was or they will think I have a disease that is making me waste away. I'll be ready to share when I am ready to share. It's my choice. Meanwhile, I do have some power in this situation and it feeeeeeeeels good.
Plus, I'll be off over Christmas and that is a huge plus. I've been a nurse for 37yrs this Jan and have had few Christmas's off. My turn, my time. I'm going to contact HR and let them know what I know about this and let it go.

Thanks for all your input.

Alice,
I hope you can do something about that nosy person.  I went back to find your first post.  It is not anybody's business what you are doing whatsoever.
When I had my surgery, there was only a handful of people who knew.  It was just something I did not want people to know. I had done so many different diets. This was the first time I kept a secret so long.  Even when I was losing weight, I told people I was jus****ching what I ate, which was true.
My mother-in law and sister-in-law just found out this past summer what I really did and it will be 3 years December 1st that I had surgery.
When I told people where I work now that I had weight loss surgery, they cannot believe it.  Of course, I have one lady, my favorite person (not) that likes to make comments about how I will probably gain the weight back, the people she knows did gain their weight back.  That is why I did not want people to know, because of comments like that.
It puts the pressure on you.

Good luck on your surgery!
Mickey

Oh Alice,  That witch really does need to learn to take care of herself!  I am so happy to hear that it is against the law to ask/insist of knowing what the surgery is for!  The mayor of our community will nearly insist on knowing why I am taking off work.....nice to know I don't have to give out info!!  She also works for a hospital (besides being Mayor) so if she finds out what DR I am seeing she will probably figure it out.  Yuck.........hadn't thought of that!

Well...........take care and hope it all goes well for you!!!

I guess I'm just a strange duck. I told everyone at my office BEFORE I was even scheduled for a consult that I was thinking of doing it.  Then I started looking at OH and the before and afters and showing co-workers... I knew from the get-go who was for me and who was a'gin me.  I heard the horror stories and I heard success stories.  I just went on my merry way. I told my co-workers I was going to put a paper plate with a stick on my cube with a number on it and if they had anything in their closet that had that number on it that they weren't wearing to bring it to me.  I came in on a regular basis while was losing and found a sack under my desk.  I had no idea who they were from. Even found a box shipped from Colorado with a name I didn't know full of beautiful expensive clothes with a note that they hoped they were too big...:)  I kept a graph of my weight loss for everyone to see.  I had encouragement from every angle.  Personally, I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Two weeks ago I went for a lower body lift. I work for a different company now.  I did the same thing there.  By the time I was ready to go out for leave, I had so much encouragement from my co-workers.  I left nothing for them to talk about... but good wishes for me.  I've gotten tons of well-wishes and a red thong from one of my closers.... life is good.

Sorry your folks are being a pain.  Sometimes I think folks just want to share.... Our lives are so much more interesting and especially when you are about to take a life-altering step.  My friend, Karen, who lives here continually says I'm the topic of conversation at every Realtor luncheon....   I love it.

I'm glad you are getting it taken care of and able to let it go. It will free you to enjoy your surgery and your new life.

I was the same as you Janet.  I shouted it to anyone who would listen.  Those that did not agree (my mother), I told them it was my body, my choice.  Besides, medical advances in this field have been nothing short of remarkable.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

I DID THE SAME THING!  I TOLD EVERYONE, EVERYONE!

I WAS SO HAPPY TO BE APPROVED AND KNEW I WAS DOING THE "RIGHT" THING.  I KNOW THERE WAS RISK DURING SURGERY EVEN AFTER SURGERY BUT, I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY, SORE BUT HAPPY.

YES, I TELL THE WORLD, THIS IS THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE FOR ME.
